One of the things that I hear most from Kerry supporters as we count down the the election is that ‘George Bush misled America convincing us to go to war in Iraq’. It certainly is a common theme for the Kerry-Edwards campaign to claim this, but how in fact could it be true?

There are two possibilities;

1) America’s pre-war intelligence was incorrect about the existence of WMD. All the meaningful analysis suggested that there were large caches of WMD in Iraq and this needed to be addressed quickly. In this case George Bush along with everyone else in the free world thought that Saddam Hussein possessed WMD and was a growing threat. So how; if this is true, did George Bush decieve the American public?

2) For some unfathomable reason the President knew that WMD did not exist in Iraq and told the American people that WMD were there to make a case for war. (This assumes our intelligence agencies knew no WMD were there and briefed the President accordingly.) This is the scenerio that John Kerry and John Edwards would have you believe. If this were in fact true (which has been contradicted by the Senate Intelligence Committee’s findings on Pre-War Intelligence) then how would John Kerry not have known about it at the time? He and John Edwards are members of the Intelligence commitee of the US Senate. This Senate Committee receives briefings similar to that which are delivered to the President. This fact makes it difficult for John Kerry to say that President Bush misled the nation as this would mean that He and John Edwards did likewise.

Now you will note that John Kerry and John Edwards rarely if ever attend Intelligence committee meetings (Kerry in fact has missed over 76% of the meetings during his tenure) so maybe they just missed the briefings to the committee that provided pre-war proof that no WMD existed in Iraq. More likely however this campaign theme “Bush misled America into War” is just one more false statement from this campaign of deception and untruths.
