A friend of mine responded to the following questions from a Kerry supporter:
Why do you feel that Bush is the only one capable of defending America?
Do you consider his National Guard duty as indicative of his ability to defend America? Or is it his handling of terrorism-related intelligence prior to the September 11 attacks? (one would have to understand how much information Bush and the administration ignored prior to 9/11).
Signed: A Kerry Supporter
Dear Kerry Supporter,
I don’t consider military service a prerequisite for the office of president. I do consider it vital however to be able to:
- Pick a position that is good for the nation and lead in that direction
- Lead the nation instead of following the polls
- Not give public testimony that will cause injury & death to US Citizens (POWs in this case)
- Show leadership in past corporate/government positions
Kerry fails on all of these, - unless of course you celebrate Population Awareness Week at your house - that was 2 of the 5 bills he sponsored in 20 years. The other 3 are less important.
I don’t know that Bush is the ONLY one that could lead our nation, but that’s not the question next Tuesday. The question is who is BETTER to lead our nation, to protect our land and our families? That is an EASY question to answer. Kerry says he’ll “fight a smarter, more efficient war on terror.” He’s the same guy that voted to cut the IC budget by $6 billion, and half of our weapons systems. He can announce “I have a plan” all he wants, but his voting record shows the real plan and it’s not good for this country.
Bush put the welfare of the nation above his aspirations. He could have stopped at Afghanistan and been re-elected in a landslide, but he thought it was too important to our children to go after global terrorism and change the face of the Middle East. I don’t know if we will be able to change that ‘hell-hole’, but I admire the man for giving it our nation’s best efforts. History will judge if it worked, but there’s no denying he came up with a plan to prevent similar 9-11 events and carried it out. He didn’t choose to sit back and wait for the next attack.
Why would you think the Intelligence Community would “ignore” information that terrorists were going to use planes to blow up buildings? I work in that community - it didn’t happen that way. Yes you can “Monday-morning quarterback” the events all you want but the fact is that we didn’t have enough hard intellegence to predict and prevent that threat. Can we do a better job - yes! And we are. Was there incompetence - no!
Bottom line: Bush has proved he is a good leader. He chose a course of action to make the country safer - the number one priority of the president of these United States. Kerry has proved: he should be in Leavenworth for betraying his country in Viet Nam, he can’t lead the Senate, he can’t define a position on Iraq or Terrorism, he can’t stick to a position once he (temporarily) stumbles on one, he doesn’t have any CREDIBLE plans, and he is married to a witch.
There, now that you have everything you need, you can pull the lever for Bush next Tuesday.
