Solaris on x86 DOA IMHO

According to recent reviews Solaris 10 on x86 systems isn’t too bad. The problem is too little too late in my opinion. With Linux for servers now being adopted by individuals and commercial customers at a rapid pace, who would waste their time qualifying yet another ‘me to’ open source OS. Particularly when the company (Sun Microsystems) bringing it to market is slowly slipping from relevance.

There was a time (perhaps 5 years ago) when this might have made sense but now it’s just late to the party. As for developers in the open source world? From knowledgable contacts in the the open source community, I understand that Solaris is viewed as old school and stodgy. What cool self proclaimed hacker wants to be labled as a Sun shill.

Yet another technology delivered Dead on Arrival.
