U.S. DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE The U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) has initiated a major agreement for Netscape client and server software. This agreement involves multiyear options, resulting in a DoD-wide license covering in excess of 2 million users. Specifically, DoD has licensed Netscape® client and Netscape server software to enhance the security capabilities across the DoD worldwide networks. Netscape software will be used to support comprehensive and cost-effective Intranet, Internet and Extranet solutions that enable DoD organizations to communicate, access and share information easily.
With the execution of
the new agreement, DISA will serve as the central point for assigning
Netscape software licenses provided under this agreement throughout the DoD.
DoD organizations should contact DISA's DII Enterprise Licensing
Program Office in DISA JIEO
to discuss the terms of this agreement.
April 9, 2002: DISA
announced today that the Netscape DoD License was extended with AOL Strategic Business Solutions by
execution of a contract option with Intelligent Decisions of Chantilly, VA.
This exemplifies the continued commitment to this groundbreaking license arrangement
by the DoD. In addition to extending support for use of the previously
licensed Netscape products DoD-Wide the contract has been modified to allow
use of Netscape technology under this agreement by all DoD users regardless
of security classification and add some additional Netscape products to the
agreement. Details on the licensed Netscape products can be be found
in the Frequently Asked Questions document.

Alliance (iPlanet) has ended. We have created a FAQ
document that answers commonly asked questions about the Alliance and
how customers are supported now.
This software is available for download and use by DoD users and organizations at no additional cost.
Federal Computer Week - DoD Expands use of Netscape Products: The Defense Department has expanded its departmentwide contract with Netscape Communications Corp. to include several new offerings and to allow Netscape products to be used to secure top-secret communications.
Washington Technology(Requires Login) - Netscape Signs Licensing Deal Netscape Communications Corp. has landed a Pentagon job that marks its largest deal yet with a federal government customer. Under the deal, Netscape products will be used at the Pentagon's far-flung facilities by some 2 million military users. The software will be used for Internet and intranets designed to help DoD communicate and share information more efficiently.

struggle for control of the Internet software market, Netscape Communications
Corp. Wednesday announced its largest government contract and said the
deal was possible because of flexibility features lacked by rival Microsoft's
products.
